Goldsmith, mum shot in failed robbery bid

An Anna Catherina, West Coast Demerara goldsmith and his mother were shot several times by bandits, who attempted to rob them at their home on Tuesday night.

Jonathan Tulsie and his 60-year-old mother, Rosaline Tulsie are currently patients at a private city hospital. Jonathan was shot twice in the chest and stomach area and twice in his feet while his mother was hit in her right knee, a police source said.  Both are in a stable condition, a relative said.

Police, in a press release yesterday stated that the incident occurred at about 10:30 pm on Tuesday. Investiga-tions revealed that Jonathan was outside in his yard when he observed two men approaching, one of whom was armed with a gun. Both were said to be wearing masks.

Followed by the bandits, he ran into the kitchen located on the lower flat and managed to pick up a cutlass and confronted the men whereupon the armed man discharged rounds at him and his mother, who was in the kitchen at the time. Jonathan was hit several times while a stray round hit his mother in her right knee. Jonathan however managed to close the door to the home as the two men had retreated outside and later escaped.

Jonathan and Rosaline were later admitted to the private hospital. The police recovered two 9mm spent shells at the scene. Up to last evening, no one had been arrested in connection with the incident.
Investigations are continuing.
