Minister of Home Affairs Clement Rohee on Wednesday met with forestry stakeholders to address security concerns in the wake of the Lindo Creek murders.
Rohee called the group of about 50 persons to the meeting after realising that this sector also operates in the same areas as the Guyana Gold and Diamond Miners Association (GGDMA) and would have similar concerns. He met with the GGDMA recently.
According to a Government Information Agency (GINA) press release the meeting addressed concerns including the upgrading of equipment and the capability of police stations in remote areas.
Suggestions were also shared concerning how the Guyana Police Force could better utilize its resources to upgrade service in the hinterland. A decision was also taken for forestry producers to meet to discuss issues, according to priority.
GINA said a follow-up meeting with the minister, the GGDMA and the police will be held. The meeting was held at the Guyana National Service Sports Complex.
