Tuschen man remanded over unlicensed firearm

Magistrate Hazel Octive-Hamilton last week remanded to prison a Tuschen man accused of having possession of a firearm without licence.

Kwame Marcus, 34, of Lot 346 Tuschen Housing Scheme, East Bank Essequibo pleaded not guilty to the charge when he appeared at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court.

It is alleged that on August 8, a pump action shot gun was found on Marcus’s farm.
In his bail application Marcus’s attorney said based on information gathered, the firearm was found on the dam that he and several other farmers use to access their farms in the backlands near to his residence. Further, he said that the several acres of land that Marcus has cultivated are at a crucial point where it needs fertilizers in order for the cash crops to survive.

However, the prosecution objected to bail on the grounds of the seriousness and prevalence of the offence.
