Magistrate Hazel Octive-Hamilton yesterday refused bail to a 31-year-old clothes vendor who allegedly robbed a man of items worth just over $1.2 million, including one handgun.

Sarwan Caesar of Lot 9 Second Street, Meadow Bank, East Bank Demerara was not required to plead to the indictable charge of robbery under arms when he appeared at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court.

It is alleged that on June 26 in Georgetown the accused while being armed with a gun robbed Muneshwar Persaud of one .32 pistol, fourteen rounds of ammunition and a quantity of cash together worth $1,222,800.
Caesar’s attorney made an application for reasonable bail to the court. However, the prosecution objected to the application.

According to the prosecution, the police did not find Caesar at the address provided to the court and only after a period of searching did the police locate him. They further stated that the man has similar matters before the court.

The accused was remanded to prison and is to appear before the court on September 5.
