Pluft – The Little Ghost, a Brazilian comedy for children acted by Guyanese actors will be staged tomorrow at the National Cultural Centre from noon.
A press release from GEMS Theatre Productions, which is producing the show, said it was first staged on Sunday at Lichas Hall in Linden. According to the press release, the hilarious children’s comedy is being presented for Carifesta and stars Howard Lorrimer, Michael Ignatius and Sheldon Braithwaite as the three mariners along with Lavonne George, Kirk Jardine, Khaiza Harris, Olivia Rodrigues and Malcolm DeFreitas.
Pluft was written by the internationally renowned Bra-zilian Maria Clara Machado in 1955 and has been performed worldwide.
Machado’s play is about a little ghost named Pluft, who lives in an abandoned house with his mother, Mrs Pluft and Uncle Gerund.
Pluft fears human contact to the point where just the thought of humans scares him. But one day a young girl, Maribel, befriends him and the two embark on a journey to prevent, Corkfoot, an evil pirate from stealing treasure belonging to Maribel’s grandfather, Captain Bonança Rainbow. They are assisted by Maribel’s friends, the three wacky mariners, Sebastian, Julian and John.
Pluft was translated for Carifesta by Leonardo Suoto, Director, Brazilian Studies and is directed by Margaret Lawrence and Gem Madhoo-Nascimento. The music adaptation was done by Sean Bhola.
All parents must be accompanied by a child.
