CIOG hails Amerindian customs, traditions

The CIOG has extended warm wishes to Amerindians on the occasion of Amerindian Heritage Month and hopes they can chart a course where their traditions and customs are preserved for the benefit of the country.

In a press release the group said it prays that God “will continue to guide and protect the Amerindian peoples as they earnestly press forward towards material advancement, cultural preservation and enhancement, and religious freedom.” Further, it said it is particularly pleased that this annual, month-long event which started in 1993 will allow indigenous peoples amidst the joys of celebration and commercial activities, to reflect on their achievements and collectively charter a vision for the future.

The CIOG also said it hopes the vision will create a reality that allows Amerindians to become economically empowered so that they can be fully integrated into mainstream Guyanese society.
