Man confronts driver after finding his stolen car

Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson-Ogle remanded to prison a man who allegedly stole a car, among other items, from a father of four, along with another man who reportedly received the stolen property, when they appeared before her at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court.

Sunil Sukhdeo, 21, of Mon Repos, East Coast Demerara,  pleaded not guilty to simple larceny from the person, while Duean Boston, 30, of D Vlissengen Road, Lodge pleaded not guilty to receiving stolen property from Sukhdeo knowing same to have been stolen.

It is alleged that on September 5 on High Street, Sukhdeo stole from Easton Hamer one  Toyota car, PKK9190, a car covering and other car care items, totalling $2.2 million in value.

On the same day Sukhdeo allegedly sold the car and other items to Boston.

However Sukhdeo’s lawyer stated that his client had been in police custody since Friday and he has provided the police with information about the person from whom  he got the items.  The defence attorney then applied for bail.

Meanwhile, Boston’s lawyer stated that his client had a valid receipt from the alleged owner of the vehicle which stated that he made a down payment of $300,000 for the car. He then applied for bail for his client.

However, the virtual owner of the vehicle, Hamer,  who was also present in court Tuesday stated that he had left his car in front of a city store at around 9:30 am and went  away to do some shopping. When he returned to where he had parked his car he noticed that the vehicle was not there. He said  he then searched the area but did not find the car. Afterwards he went to the police station and made a report about the incident.

He said further that Friday last he saw his car parked in front of a city business and  he went up to the driver and told him that  he was the owner of the vehicle.  He said that he took out the valid documents for the car and showed it to the driver who stated that he was driving the car as a taxi for Boston. The police were later contacted and the driver of the vehicle was arrested. Boston who was the alleged owner of the car was called in and also arrested along with Sukhdeo.

The magistrate subsequently ordered that Sukhdeo and Boston be remanded to prison and that they return to court on September 25.
