Scores of people of all ages turned out yesterday to register for free computer classes offered by the Mark Benschop Foundation.
According to Mark Benschop, the Head of the foundation, over 500 persons have registered for the course. The overwhelming response has forced the organisation to arrange three sessions of classes six days per week.
Benschop said that the purpose of the course is “to empower the community.” He says that his intention is not to put the computer schools out of business but to provide an opportunity for those who could not afford to attend computer classes.
The classes commence next week Monday and will run for about 2 ½ to 3 weeks.
One woman, Lavern Jack said that she chose to register for the classes so that she would have something to do in the afternoons. The working woman said that she thought the computer class would be a meaningful way to spend her time. She stated that she had already completed some computer courses but is hoping to add to her knowledge.
Meanwhile, 17-year-old Kevil Thomas is looking forward to being part of the computer classes. He explained that as soon as he heard about the classes, he decided to grab the opportunity with both hands. He is now hoping to learn as much as he can.
