Youth conference on at NCC today

The Youth Department of the South Road Full Gospel Assembly will be trying to make a positive difference today as it hosts its eighth annual youth conference.

Shaundell Brotherson, leader of the Youth department, says that the forum has been strategically planned to address some of the issues that affect youths living in Guyana. The theme of the conference is “Establishing a Kingdom Generation”, and she says that the different speakers will be presenting the youths with some keys to help them deal with difficult situations.

She adds that while the conference will highlight biblical teachings, it is open to everyone –including those who are not Christians. She says that life is governed by principles and these apply to everybody. As such, anyone can learn something from the conference. She also says that an opportunity will be presented for those in attendance to ask questions.

Over the past seven years, the conference has been a big success drawing hundreds of young people from all across the nation. “People from various backgrounds come and each year the response has been good,” the young lady says. And she expects a similar if not better response this year.

One of the highpoints of the conference has been the use of the performing arts — songs, poems and dramatic presentations — to communicate positive messages. She says that many interesting, yet message-packed dramatic performances have been staged. The drama normally deals with real issues in an entertaining manner and has come to be regarded as a highlight by many.

The one-day conference will be held at the National Cultural Centre (NCC) from 9 am until 4 pm today. The registration fee is $100 and interested persons can register at the Cultural Centre. The conference will be divided into two sessions separated by a lunch break. Participants are reminded that the dress code of the NCC is in effect.
