Cow pasture, not playing field

Dear Editor,

Haslington community co-operative should have been dissolved after roads, lights and other utilities were installed, something which was completed many years ago. Still today we have a body that is preventing the people of this community from acquiring a transport for their lands. Many letters were sent to the management committee asking for a meeting but to date none has been held. Letters were sent to Mr Jabbar, Mr Nurse and Ms Shury, who consequently visited the community.

A meeting was also held with the minister concerning the co-op, and still nothing has been done.

According to the coop officer the body that is presently in power was not elected and should have not have been there, which makes it illegal. He requested an audit of the assets and that the records be handed over, but to date nothing has been done. The CDC of the community managed to relocate the squatters that were squatting in the playing field, renovate the playing field and also managed to get the community members involved in getting the community clean and the youths organised.

After the hard task of getting the playing field back to what it should be and forming a football, tennis and volleyball club, a senior member of the co-op decided to lock the playing field, thus preventing the members of the community from accessing the ground. The playing field is not used any longer as a recreational facility but as a pasture for grazing a cow. We the youths are tired of using the neighbouring community playing field when we have one here. This is absolutely absurd.

Yours faithfully
Samuel Sandy
