Spilt porridge heated up driver, conductor row – court hears

Two men who were allegedly involved in a “heated” argument, which turned violent after one’s hot porridge was spilt on the other’s arm, were placed on a bond to keep the peace when they appeared before Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson-Ogle yesterday at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court.

Almond Smith, 42,  of Bagotville, West Bank Demerara, and Ian Joseph, 25, of 115 Cummings Park, East Coast Demerara, both pleaded not guilty to assaulting and causing actual bodily harm to each other.

It is alleged that on September 19 on Croal Street, Smith who is a minibus driver and Joseph his conductor, got into an argument, which resulted in Smith’s cup of hot porridge being spilt on Joseph’s left arm. Joseph retaliating by hitting Smith on the head with a piece of wood.

However, the two stated that they were not desirous of offering evidence against each other.
The magistrate subsequently ordered that Smith and Joseph be placed on a bond to keep the peace for two years.
