Two men were yesterday placed on $250,000 bail each after they appeared before Magistrate Melissa Robertson-Ogle accused of stealing a boring bar machine from Rusal bauxite company.
Jermaine Bell, 19, of 1580 Central Amelia’s Ward and Trevor Clarke, 31, of 1017 Kaneville, Grove, East Bank Demerara, allegedly stole the machine valued at $2,547,125 on September 7.
Bell was represented by attorney-at-law Lyndon Amsterdam who said that investigations carried out by the police led to the discovery of the machine but it was not found on or anywhere near his client.
He said that his client was placed on station bail in the sum of $100,000 and went to court yesterday on his own accord.
Clarke was represented by attorney Glen Hanoman who reiterated most of what the other attorney had said but added that his client is a very stable person who has been holding the same job for the last 14 years.
Police prosecutor Sherwin Mathews told the court that according to his facts the two accused were jointly charged because one of them stole the machine while the other was the driver of the vehicle that was used to transport it. The machine was recovered and is lodged at the McKenzie Police Station.
The prosecutor did not object to bail and the men were placed on $250,000 each. Their next court appearance is scheduled for the Kwakwani Magistrate’s Court on October 30.
