Don Juan bartender gets two years for joyride in stolen car

A bartender who stole his boss’ car to go on a date with a girlfriend was sentenced to two years imprisonment yesterday when he appeared before Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson-Ogle at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court.

Anil Nagaloo, 24, of 64 James Street, Albouystown pleaded guilty to the charge of larceny from the person.

On September 28, Nagaloo was solely entrusted with a motor car worth $1.2M by his employer, Carlton Lee, to park it into a garage next door to the club where he works. But Nagaloo drove away and was later seen by Lee sitting in it drinking with his friends. Lee subsequently made a report to the police station and Nagaloo was arrested and the car was recovered.  But Nagaloo told the court that “me and he is friend and I jus borrow de car for tek mey girlfriend out”. He said had intended to put the car into the garage after his date but that the owner had caught him drinking with his friends and had threatened to report him to the police station.

Nagaloo pleaded to the Magistrate “please your worship don‘t go too hard on me, I did jus borrowing it”. After the sentence was handed down, Nagaloo grumbled to himself as he was escorted out of the court by a police officer.
