Roopraj rewrites second-division record books with 9/24 in Berbice

Number 71 opening bowler Karamchand Roopraj began the Demerara Bank sponsored second division  limited overs competition cricket in fine style when he returned the amazing figures of 9/24 from a mere six overs.

In the competition organized by the Berbice Cricket Board of Control (BCBC) for teams in the Upper and Central Corentyne areas, Roopraj single-handedly routed Number 70 MYO for 63 in 12 overs in reply to Number 71’s score of 169 which was highlighted by Nazim Mohammed’s top-score of  50 and Samdat Singh’s and Deomangal Deodharie’s innings of 28 runs each.

Bowling for Number 70 Niazi Khan took 5/18 and Salim Khan 3/38.

In the game featuring Number 64 Fighting Marines and Number 55 Mayflowers, Jason Itwaru scored a swashbuckling 92 decorated with 13 fours and two sixes as  Number 64 reached 236/6 off their allotted overs.

Thakurdial Tikaram and Vishwanauth Ramnandan  chipped in with 36 and 26 respectively.

Bowling for Number 55 Rafik Saliman returned figures of 3/51. When Number 55 batted Itwaru  returned with the ball to torment them capturing 5/36 as Number 55 was dismissed for 83.

At Number 73, Strykers won over the home team Number 73 Young Warriors. Taking first strike Strykers, led by former West Indies opener Ryan Ramdass with 60, were bowled out for 178 in 30 overs with Trisham Ramsarran capturing 3/21, Lakeram Latchman 2/20 and Chanderkumar Ramjass  2/30.

Chasing 179 for victory, Number 73 were dismissed for 158 in 26.4 overs with Jamal Khan 3/17, Vishal Jamisay 3/35, Issac Jamisay 2/13 and Eric Jamisay 2/20 being the wicket takers. Lakeram Latchman returned with the bat to hit the top score  of 63.

At Crabwood Creek

Crabwood Creek Rising (CWC) whipped Young Warriors by five wickets.

Batting first Young Warriors made 108 in 22 overs with Omeshwar Lallbahadur top scoring with 35. Bowling for CWC, Amit Rambharose with 6/20 was the principal destroyer. He was supported by Outram Prahalad 3/33. CWC in their turn at the crease hit off the runs for the loss of five wickets in 14 overs with Babish Bhola top scoring with 27. Gobin Sugrim took 2/11.

At Number 47, Number 47 Pioneers,, rattled up 247/8 in 40 overs with Dewan Singh, 50, Totaram Persaud, 37, Nagasar Sookram, 32, Chandradat Seepaul,  28 and Hemchand Seepaul, 25 the principal scorers.

Bowling for Number 45, Ramesh Balraj 3/33 and Vijay Singh 3/52 were the main wicket takers.
In reply,  Number 45 mustered 189 all out with only Ian Alister, 41, Ramkumar Etwaroo, 34, and Vijay Singh, 26 put up any resistance to the bowling of Sanjay Seenanan with 3/25 and Dewan Singh with 2/35.

At Number 69, Number 69 Vikings had an easy time against Number 65A. Number 69,  taking first strike, rattled up 177 in 34 overs with Virvasha Ramdharry scoring an even 50, Wazir Ally 35 and Krishna Narsingh 25.

Bowling for Number 65A, Anil Armagon snared 4/28 and Anil Boodhoo 3/26.

Number 65A chasing 178 to win were dismissed for 137 as only Rajesh Adhar with 28 recorded any substantial score.

Bowling for Number 69, Naresh Prashad with 2/25 and Vishwanauth Lallbeharry 2/23 were the main wicket takers.

In the final game, Number 70’s Lalman made light work of Number 70 Young Blood. Batting first Young Blood were shot out for 104 as Kumar Mathura with 3/15, Omesh Khemraj 2/16 and Chatterpaul Lionel 2/25 causing the destruction.Number 70’s Lalman in reply, led by an unbeaten 47 from C. Lionel and 29 not out from Nairam Yacoob, hit off the required target in 16 overs for the loss of  two wickets.
