Dead, injured crash victims still unidentified

A man died shortly after he was hit by a speeding minibus on the Mc Doom Public Road around 7.30 pm on Friday.

The victim who was clad in a cream long-sleeve shirt and brownish coloured pants and was of Indian descent, had not been identified up to press time last night.

Reports reaching this newspaper stated that the man was crossing the road when he was hit by the minibus, which was heading in a southerly direction.

As a result of the impact, the left side of the vehicle’s windscreen was smashed in. The man sustained head injuries. There were also bruises to his hand and other parts of the body. He died shortly after arriving at the Georgetown hospital.

The driver was arrested and investigations are continuing. The body is lying at the hospital’s mortuary awaiting a post-mortem examination.

Meanwhile the police are still trying to ascertain the identity of another man of Indian decent, who was struck down by a minibus while attempting to cross a road at Success, East Coast Demerara late Friday afternoon.

Up to press time last evening the man was still a patient of the Intensive Care Unit, of the Georgetown Hospital in an unconscious state.

According to reports, the man sustained massive head injuries as a result of the impact which occurred some time around 5 pm. He was rendered unconscious and was rushed to the Georgetown Hospital where he underwent emergency surgery.
