Army lieutenant named in grenade allegation under house arrest

The Guyana Defence Force Lieutenant, who was arrested by police in wake of allegations that he allegedly threatened to destroy the property of a female in Queenstown, is under house arrest at base Camp Ayanganna.

According to a Guyana Defence Force (GDF) brief press statement sent last evening, the army has launched an investigation into “the entire issue”. The Lieutenant had been arrested by police.

A news article in last Friday’s edition of the Kaieteur News, page eight, captioned: ‘Army lieutenant held with grenade, ammo’, had stated that the rank was discovered by police on Wednesday night with a grenade and 100 rounds of ammunition. The report stated that the rank had “allegedly threatened to ‘blow up’ the home” of his girlfriend’s mother.
