The Indian Culture Centre (ICC) celebrated Education Day on Tuesday in honour of the birth anniversary of Indian Freedom Fighter Maulana Abul Kalam Azad. An Impromptu Speech competition was held to corroborate the occasion.
Azad served as the Indian Minister of Education in Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru’s cabinet from 1947 to 1958. The ICC in a press release described him as an “eminent Educationist”.
Students from various public secondary schools and those of the ICC participated in the Impromptu Speech competition. The students were each allotted a fixed amount of time in which they selected and then spoke on a topic related to education, its role in freedom fighting and history.
Three judges were given the task of listening to the speeches made by the teenagers. Points were awarded and the winners immediately selected.
Angela Roopnarine, Shoma Sattaur, and Sudha Joshi secured the first, second, and third prize respectively. Vidya Ram, Taramdeo Singh, Alicia Singh, Zenita Nicholson, Hritik Sharma, Swetha Kishan and Premil Singh also participated in the education day celebration.
