Buxton United are ECDFA/ Mackeson Stout champions

Buxton United created a major upset, when they won the East Coast Demerara Football Association/ Mac-keson Stout sponsored Premier league competition.
The young Buxton side sprung surprises on many of their opponents, thanks to the efforts of the multi talented and leading goal scorer in the tournament Clive Andries, to pull off the historic feat in their first year of senior competition.

In their final game of the competition, they held defending champions BV/ Triumph United to a one all draw at the Buxton Community Centre ground last Sunday. BV/Triumph took the lead when Shawn “Berbician” Daniels put his team ahead in the 12th minute, after he had received a beautiful cross from Delroy Deen, making no mistake sending a well placed powerful right foot shot into the back of the net.  The pace of the game was lifted immediately, as the youthful Buxton United side looked for the equalizer. It did materialize in the 21st minute when Michael Phil beat goal keeper Linden Denis with his trade mark shot, a curling kick to the last post.   The second half, started off at a fast pace as both teams looked to gain the advantage. However, no goals materialised as Buxton United squandered many goal scoring chances, with Andries missing a clear cut chance in the 57th minute, when his left foot shot went wide of the target. BV/Triumph United also missed a clear chance when Eon Dooker’s shot went over the cross bar in the 71st minute, much to the dismay of his team mates, whilst Les Charles Critchlow wasted a penalty in the 87th minute which was won by Andries who was continuously attacking BV/Triumph’s goal mouth.  Buxton United ended the league with   21 points from five wins and three drawn games, whilst BV/ Triumph ended their campaign with 14 points.

Former Kashif & Shanghai, Mayors Cup and East Coast Demerara champions Victoria Kings, also ended their campaign with 16 points to claim the runners up position  and can only blame themselves for not winning the league, after playing good football whilst failing to score goals.
Only Bakewell Buxton Stars who have 15 points and one more game against Plaisance United, can surpass Victoria Kings and claim the runners-up position, as Mahaica Determinators have also finished their campaign with 15 points after beating Ann’s Grove 3-0 last Thursday at Plaisance Community Centre ground.

Golden Grove, Ann’s Grove and Black Stallion have all completed their campaigns, with Golden Grove ending on 13 points, Ann’s Grove 12 and Black Stallion one. Plaisance United who have one match left against Bakewell Buxton Stars have seven points and will be looking to upset their opponents and end the league on a high. (Calvin Roberts)
