Students upset W/Islands at Enmore

The Combined Campuses and Colleges (CCC) cricket team  recorded an upset victory over the  Windward Islands in their second round clash of the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) President’s Cup encounter at the Enmore Community Centre ground yesterday.
Winning the toss and batting, CCC scored 224-6 from their 50 overs with Romel Currency 70 and Floyd Reifer 62 being the principal scorers.

The Windward Islands in reply were bowled out for 156 from 46.2 overs as CCC completed a comfortable 68-run win.
As they did in their game against Guyana, CCC must have rued the decision to bat first after Ramnarine Chattergoon,(who was given a life by Deighton Butler when on one and his team’s score on nine in the second over) was caught by Kevin James at mid-on off West Indies under-19 fast bowler Nelon Pascal for six.

Currency and skipper Simon Jackson 34 then featured in a 69-run, second-wicket partnership in the face of some fiery bowling from Pascal and a steady line and length from Rawle Lewis and Liam Sebastian, which kept a tight rein on the students.
The CCC  batsmen struggled to get the ball away on a good batting wicket and fast outfield and after the second power play, they were 57-1 from 16 overs.

The 26-year-old Currency eased the shackles for his team when he struck Lewis over wide mid-on for four.
However he lost Jackson in the next over, caught and bowled by Sebastian for 34 (68 balls; 2×4) which ended their second wicket partnership that lasted for 24.3 overs.

The experienced Floyd Reifer entered in slightly overcast conditions and saw Currency post his second 50 in this year’s tournament with a lofted drive back over the head of Shane Shillingford for his third four.

The land mark came off his 112th delivery in the first over of the final power play with the second new ball.
Currency was then stumped on the second attempt by wicketkeeper Linden James off Shillingford for 70 at 146-3, ending a 62-run, third-wicket partnership with Reifer. He faced 128 balls and struck four fours and one six.

Reifer, was given a life when Bascombe misjudged a catch on the long off boundary off Sebastian, which pushed his score to 49 and he reached his half century when he flicked Pascal off his legs to fine leg for two. He faced 57 deliveries and struck two sixes and two fours as CCC.
Hunting for quick runs, CCC lost Edwards 14 and Reifer, who was bowled by Pascal after hitting the bowler for two fours for a well played 62. He faced 65 balls and struck four fours and two sixes. Some robust hitting from Chadwick Walton who made an unbeaten 11 (1×4; 5 balls) guided Barbados to 224-6 from their 50 overs.

Sebastian ended with 3-52 and Pascal 2-44 from 10 and eight overs each respectively for the Windward Islands who began their reply on a positive note  with Devon Smith and Bascombe 08 racing to 21 from three overs.

However Bascombe  was adjudged lbw to one that kept low from left arm spinner Kavesh Kantasingh in the fourth over.
The Windwards lost the wickets of Charles 19 and Sebastian 05 in quick succession, and were 70-3 in the 20th over.
Kantasingh 2-23, Sealy who was later adjudged Man of the Match, 3-31 and Chattergoon 2-19 were the principal wicket takers for CCC who will have a rest day today  while the Windward Islands will face host Guyana at Blairmont from 09:00hrs in what will be a crucial encounter for them.
