Man in wheelchair struck by hit-and-run driver

A 47-year-old wheelchair bound man was taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital for treatment after he was hit by an unknown vehicle while attempting to cross the Vreed-en-Hoop Public Road.

Aubrey Bodhoo who has only one leg and is wheelchair bound, and who resides by himself in the Best Squatting area was up to press time receiving treatment for the injuries he received in the accident.
When Stabroek News visited the hospital last evening the bloodied man was lying on a stretcher in the waiting area outside the emergency unit waiting his turn to see a doctor.

The man’s sister Joan Jaikissoon told this newspaper that she was at home when she got a phone call informing her that her brother had been involved in an accident.

She said that bystanders had told her it was a car that hit her brother but the driver had driven away.
Jaikissoon said that from all indications her brother was going to buy Chinese food when the accident occurred at the Best and Vreed-en-Hoop roads.

He was rushed to the West Demerara Hospital but was later transferred to Georgetown.
