Coast Guard gun, some ammo recovered

The pistol and a portion of the ammunition which went missing from one of the Guyana Defence Force’s (GDF) vessels assigned to its Coast Guard division were recovered, Major Earl Daniels said.

According to Major Daniels, the army’s Public Relations Officer, a member of the Coast Guard has been implicated in the matter and he along with two civilians are in custody. However, efforts are being made to locate an additional 12 rounds of ammunition which are still missing.

After discovering that the items were missing GDF had launched an investigation in the matter and several officers and ratings from the Coast Guard Division were questioned.

An army press release had stated that an M 35 Browning pistol and 37 rounds of 9 mm ammunition were discovered missing from the small arms magazine aboard the Guyana Defence Force ship (GDFS) Essequibo, which was moored alongside the wharf at the Headquarters of the Coast Guard, Ruimveldt.
