Man shot in armed robbery by fellow minibus passenger

A South Ruimveldt man was left nursing a gunshot wound to his chest after falling victim to an armed robbery when he disembarked from a minibus to allow his assailant to come out.

According to a police press release, Frank Belle, 31, of 2699 Manatee Place South Ruimveldt was shot in the left side of his chest around 22:00 hrs on Saturday last night in the vicinity of the North Ruimveldt Multilateral School.
The release said that Belle had exited the bus to allow the man to come out of the vehicle when it stopped on Mandela Avenue. As the suspect came out of the bus he held on to the gold chain which Belle was wearing. Belle resisted and the man pulled out a gun and shot him in the chest. He then snatched the chain and a cell phone while his victim lay on the ground, subsequently running off with the items.

Belle was taken to the Georgetown hospital where he was treated and admitted to the open ward. He took self-discharge yesterday and was admitted to the St Joseph’s Mercy Hospital. When this newspaper visited him there the man said that he did not wish to talk about what had happened but stated that he was out of the danger zone and was feeling better.

Meanwhile the release said that investigations were continuing.
