No big buses as yet – Benn

There has been no movement with the government’s proposal to introduce big buses to the public transportation sector.

Speaking through his secretary on Friday, Minister of Public Works and Communi-cations, Robeson Benn said there was “no new information” on the matter.

The minister had last told this newspaper that the ministry was examining the proposal.

Back in June, when fuel prices were at record highs and the public clamouring for relief, the government had expressed an interest in acquiring 150 large and medium-size passenger buses intended to upgrade the public transportation services.

An advertisement by the Ministry of Public Works and Communications at the time had invited expressions of interest for the supply of the buses.

A few months later, Benn had told this newspaper that the ministry was still looking at proposals.
Since then the price of fuel has dropped significantly and the big buses are yet to make an appearance on the roadways.
