Bauxite company, Kwakwani group undertake community projects

The Bauxite Company of Guyana Incorporated (BCGI) recently refurbished a pavilion for sport and other activitities at Worrell’s Park, Kwakwani.

According to a Govern-ment Information Agency (GINA) press release the rehabilitation works are a fulfilment “of a long awaited promise” that BCGI which operates under the management of the Russian Aluminium Group (RUSAL) made to the community.
Prime Minister Samuel Hinds in his address at the commissioning ceremony on Friday commended RUSAL/ BCGI for funding the project and the Kwakwani Con-cerned Citizens Group (KCCG) for managing it. Hinds urged citizens to contribute as much as possible.

The company had pledged to support community development initiatives and worked with the KCCG to undertake this project. KCCG also conducted several other projects in the region: road repairs between Kwakwani and Ituni which also provided employment for several persons in the area; repairs to the cenotaph and the swimming pool; repairs to the area for independence celebrations and the provision of a reliable garbage disposal service.

GINA said representatives of the Neighbourhood Democratic Council also attended the commissioning.
