One of the country’s leading poultry suppliers is offering assurances that its current stocks of chicken are “more than adequate” for the Christmas period and beyond.
General Manager of the Water Street branch of the Bounty Supermarket chain Gregory Camacho told Stabroek Business earlier this week that the Bounty Farms operation at Timehri has geared itself to supply chicken to customers at its various outlets throughout the holidays. “We are sufficiently confident in our chicken supplies that we have decided to retain the special prices that have been applied to chicken parts for some months now as part of our cost-of-living ease initiative taken earlier this year.
Camacho disclosed that two months ago Bounty Farm Ltd. had installed a new blast freezing facility at its farm which had a capacity to accommodate 25,000 birds. “What this has done is to increase our readiness to provide the market with birds,” Camacho said.
Local consumers have had to endure unreliable chicken supplies and wildly fluctuating prices during the Christmas period for several years now and according to Camacho, Bounty was seeking “to keep both supplies and prices stable this Christmas.”
When Stabroek Business visited the Bounty Water Street outlet on Wednesday consumers were pursuing what appeared to be their routine shopping and there was no sign of the panic buying that has been in evidence during previous Christmas periods.
“Apart from our chicken Bounty is also seeking to raise the bar as far as our range and quality of meats is concerned,” Camacho said. Stabroek Business was shown a wide variety of hams and other local and imported meats which Camacho said would be available throughout the Christmas period and beyond.
Meanwhile Camacho told Stabroek Business that the Bounty chain was seeking to offer enhanced standards of customer service at all of its outlets. “Here in Water Street we understand the parking limitations and what we have decided to do is to put in place a system that allows shoppers to be dropped off here and after they have finished their shopping they can then call for their vehicles and have us deliver their shopping to those vehicles.” .
