Nicky’s fish shop owner on noise nuisance charges

Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson yesterday granted bail in the sum of $80,000 to a businessman who appeared before her on 16 counts of noise nuisance.

Paul Lucas, 43, the proprietor of Nicky’s Fish Shop who resides at Lot 1 E1/2 Drury Lane, Campbellville, Georgetown pleaded not guilty to the charges when they were read to him.

It is alleged that between November 6 and 9 at Drury Lane, Lucas being the proprietor of Nicky’s Fish Shop played a musical system, that is one Compact Disc (CD) player with one power amplifier, equalizer and two speaker boxes with a 12-inch and a 15-inch speaker attached respectively, which caused loud and continuous noise to the annoyance of Brother Chris, Arjune Beharry, Tulsiedial Jagmohan and Renita Singh. Lucas’ attorney-at-law made an application for bail to which the prosecution made no objection. The magistrate subsequently granted bail in the stated sum and the matter was adjourned to January 30.
