We of the Sunbeam Women’s Group would like to take the initiative to publicly congratulate the staff and the parents of the children of the Supply Primary School who have done so well at the recent Grade Six Examinations.
It has been more than forty years since a pupil of that school has qualified for a sixth form secondary school. The headmistress and her staff are evidently working well together and the presence of qualified teaches and more recently, the addition of a male teacher to the formerly all-female staff has paid dividends.
The recent renovation and extending of the school was cited as a poverty reduction project, as it was hoped that the children of the village who travelled to Craig Primary would be able to be accommodated at Supply. This is now happening since the recent performance.
There are, however, some flaws in the execution of the renovations which can only be corrected at great cost. These are the siting of the sanitary block and the reduction of the length of the school yard. We also wish to point out that the paper-thin plywood used to seal the bottom flat has rotted and is coming apart in many parts of the roof.
We wish to take this opportunity to raise the matter of the length of the land assigned to the school by the Diocese of Guyana which has not been utilized in the reconstruction of the school.
