Youth granted $300,000 bail over attempt to commit murder

An 18-year-old Meadowbrook resident who allegedly attempted to murder another man was granted $300,000 bail yesterday when he appeared before Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court.

Jason Abrams of Lot 76 Meadowbrook Gardens was not required to plead to the indictable charge of attempt to commit murder.

It is alleged that Abrams wounded Winston Harris on December 12 at South Ruimveldt.

Harris’s sister, Sharon Harris, informed the court that because of the wound her brother sustained as a result of the incident, he had to be rushed to the hospital early yesterday morning to again receive medical treatment.

Abrams’s lawyer applied for bail for him on the grounds that his client had no previous convictions and from information gathered, Harris was in no form of danger since “he is at home resting peacefully.”  The lawyer then asked the court to take into consideration the fact that the offence was a bailable one.

The prosecution made no objections to the application for bail and the magistrate subsequently granted it in the sum of $300,000. The magistrate then ordered that Abrams return to court on January 27.
