No more subventions for TUC – Nadir

Minister of Labour Manzoor Nadir told members of Parliament on Monday, that the Government will not be restoring its annual subvention to the Guyana Trades Union Congress.

In response to a question raised by PNCR-1G parliamentarian Basil Williams, Nadir said that providing subventions can be seen as government interference which contradicts the international rules  on the operation of Trade Unions.

He said that the government had given subventions from 1992 until recently, when it reviewed its situation. Nadir said that it is partly why President Bharrat Jagdeo has stopped addressing the trade unions during their Labour Day activities.
