Carpenter charged with armed robbery at bakery

An Albouystown man who allegedly invaded Young’s Bakery on Saffon Street and robbed the proprietrix of a quantity of cash at gunpoint before escaping, yesterday appeared before Magistrate Hazel Octive-Hamilton and was remanded to prison.

Clive Brown, 31, of Albouys Street, Albouystown was not required to plead to a charge of robbery under arms when it was read to him in the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court.

It is alleged that last Friday at the establishment, being armed with a gun, Browne robbed Margaret Young of $150,000 cash and a $25,000 Motorola cellular phone.

Yesterday the court was told that the only thing linking Brown to the crime was a motorcycle which matched the description of the one used in the robbery.

Attorney-at-law Ronald Burch-Smith who entered an appearance for Brown first inquired about the time the robbery took place and was told by police prosecutor Desiree Fowler that it occurred around 1 pm.

Burch-Smith told the court that he was instructed by his client that on the day in question he was at the airport in the morning and he returned to Georgetown just after 10 am.
