Freeman St man remanded over $1.5M gunpoint robbery

An East La Penitence man was remanded on a charge of robbery under arms when he appeared before Magistrate Hazel Octive-Hamilton in the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court yesterday.

Deon Layne of Freeman Street, East La Penitence allegedly robbed Haroon Rasheed Khan at gunpoint of $1,500,000 on February 25.

Freeman had recently passed through the same court on robbery charges.

He told the court that he had promised himself not to get involved again but “the police are victimizing me, they just pick me up and charge me.”

The magistrate told him he would have a chance to speak about that but the present hearing was not the forum.

Police prosecutor Shellon Daniels requested that bail be refused and a date fixed for report.

The request was granted and Layne has to return to court on March 31.
