The 15-year-old student, who allegedly robbed a taxi driver at gun point, was granted $170,000 bail and compensated the virtual complainant when he appeared before the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court yesterday.
On Monday the third year high school student was charged with unlawful possession of a firearm, unlawful possession of ammunition and robbery under arms.
It is alleged that on July 10 the young man had in his possession eight rounds of ammunition and one pistol without being the holder of a licence. Further, on the same date he robbed taxi driver, Rabindranauth Baijnauth, of his wallet, cell phone and a quantity of cash together valued $8,300.
Yesterday Baijnauth accepted compensation in the sum of $100,000 from the teenager’s family and in turn did not offer any evidence against the boy in the matter. In the firearm and ammunition matters the court granted bail in the sum of $85,000 for each charge. The teen was ordered by the court to sign a bond to keep the peace for two years and he will also be subjected to counselling for a period of two years.
September 12 is the next date for the continuation of the firearm and ammunition matters.
Baijnauth had told the court on Monday that he is a taxi driver and the teen had hired him to take him up the East Coast. The man explained that along the way the teenager launched his attack; the boy verbally abused him and demanded cash and valuables but was caught when he attempted to escape.
