Lusignan man assaulted and robbed

A 30-year-old Lusignan man was assaulted and robbed en route to his friend’s house on Monday night and had to seek medical attention for his injuries.

Mark Gobin told Stabroek News that as he was driving along a street to visit a friend, a shopkeeper stopped him saying he could not drive into the street because it was “people like you who damaged it.” The man said that he was reversing out of the street when someone shouted “Yo!” and “I turn to the side and whacks, in de face I get it.”

Gobin sustained a deep gash to his left cheek and though he was dazed at first he managed to drive to the Vigilance Police Station. When this newspaper arrived at the Georgetown Public Hospital around 10 pm Gobin said police had instructed him to visit the city hospital and he had been awaiting treatment since 7 pm. The man lamented the long wait as he wiped his hand on the front of his blood-stained shirt.
