Rural constable charged with raping girl, 14

Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson-Ogle yesterday remanded to prison a 64-year-old constable accused of raping a 14-year-old girl.
Randolph Skeete, a rural constable attached to the Kitty Police Station, of Lot 4 Shell Road, Kitty, was not required to plead to the charge when he appeared at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court.

The crime was allegedly committed on January 29, at Georgetown.
The man’s attorney Hukumchand told the court that on the date in question his client was granted $20,000 station bail which was later returned to him. He said it was only yesterday morning that Skeete was told that he would be charged with the offence.
In his bail application Hukumchand told the court that Skeete was not a flight risk.

In response to the submission about the station bail the prosecution said they were unaware that the sum was returned and they further objected to bail.
Skeete was ordered to appear at court on Monday.
