On Friday September 21, 2007 my son Delwin Dexter Mc Queen of Lot 58 Howes Street Charlestown, aged fourteen now deceased was dressed in white and green, the uniform of South Ruimveldt Secondary. Delwin was on his way to school that morning when at the corner of Howes and Lyng Streets he was attacked by a school dropout (name given) of Adelaide Street, Charlestown, and was dealt a blow to the head with a piece of wood with nails attached to it.
Delwin was rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation after he collapsed and was seen by a doctor. He was admitted to the High Dependency Unit where he spent four days before being transferred to the open ward. Delwin remained there for one week and was discharged. During that time Delwin continued to suffer bouts of headaches and numbness in his right side. For the past four months his condition was unstable. On Friday January 11, 2008, Delwin had to be rushed to the St Joseph’s Mercy Hospital where he subsequently died before receiving medical treatment.
With respect to all Guyanese citizens, I would like to know, is it fair to those children who dream to have a decent education to be robbed of the opportunity to do so and fear for their lives because of those school dropouts who choose to live their lives as thugs.
