Indoor hockey gets cracking tonight

The Guyana Telephone &Telegraph (GT&T) sponsored National six-a-side Indoor Championships will get cracking with defending champions Georgetown Cricket Club “A” set for an explosive start against lowly-rated Carib Degenerates in one of six matches carded for this evening at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall.

Nine teams will contest the men’s competition and four women’s teams will battle for supremacy over the next four days.

The curtain raiser will be a showdown between Police and Old Fort “B” men’s teams billed to start at 17:30 h.

The second match of the evening will see Everest women’s team taking on a Super Mix side made of several former national players.

The GCC ‘A’ versus Degenerates clash is the third on the programme followed by Old Fort “A” meeting Everest Hikers “B” in a men’s game.

GCC ladies’ teams, Spartan and Tigers will face each other as they set their sights on the women’s title.

The final game of the evening will be a clash between 2007 Diamond Mineral Water Indoor men’s Champions Everest Hikers “A” and GCC “B”.

In the men’s competition, Hikers “A”, Police, GCC “B” and Old Fort “B” and Western Dragons of West Demerara are in Group “A”, while the teams in Group “B” are GCC “A”, Degenerates, Old Fort “A” and Everest “B”.

The women will a round robin competition with the top two teams meeting in the final.

Officials of the Guyana Hockey Board disclosed that fans can expect four nights of exciting hockey with most of the country’s top players expected to be on show.

GCC men’s teams will feature Alan Fernandes, Damon Woodroffe, Philip Fernandes, Devin Hooper, Dwayne Scott, and Gregory Garroway, Hikers, Devin Munroe, Jerezeno Bell, Alex Gouveia, Robert Fernandes, Marc King, and Robert France, (Old Fort) Aderemi and Askofu Simon, Tony Cole, John Abraham, Wayne St. Jules and Chris Kwan-Low, (Police) Ransford Liverpool, Dane Mc Almont and Paul Walker (Degenerates) David Fernandes, Keith Gordon, Timothy McIntosh, Robert Lewis, James Mentore and Triston Gomes.

Seven matches will be played tomorrow evening.
