Wado Ryu karate association stages successful c/ships

The Banks DIH Limited based Guyana Wado Ryu Karate Association held its annual junior karate championships at the Banks DIH Sports Club, Thirst Park last Saturday.

Over 90 students from three dojos, Wales,  Mae’s and the host Banks DIH participated in the championships which were sponsored by the beverage company. Banks DIH Sports Club manager, Collis Willie, declared the championships open and also assisted with the distribution of prizes.

The six first -placed finishers in the Guyana Wado Ryu Karate Championships display their trophies which were sponsored by Banks DIH Limited.The club, which has been in existence for the past 19 years,  is run by Sensei Winston Dunbar, 5th Dan Black Belt and Technical Advisor and his assistants Fazal Mohammed and Darren Nurse who are both 1st Dan Black belts.

The results of the championships which saw the top four finishers receiving prizes are as follows:
Mixed Kata Under-8: Madhurie Dhanraj (1st), Alyssa Nurse (2nd), Noah Ferouz (3rd) and Dwight Peters (4th).
Mixed Kumite Under-8: Alyssa Nurse, Noah Ferouz, Arvin Gobin and Dwight Peters.
Mixed Kumite Under-10: Jermaine Kendall, Dylan Nurse, Lawrence Payne and Nicholas Rampersaud.

Mixed Kumite Under-10: Raymond Nurse, Thakurprasad Mathura, Trevon Bourne and Nicholas Kissoon.
Female Open Kumite: Shantel Mussenden, Khadija Ba, Mahadevi Prasad and Shevone Charles.

Male Open Kumite: Elimane Ba, Shankar Prasad and Shawn Levi.
