Tomorrow’s Legacy Run to usher in Carifesta –Kumar

Following the success of the first National Legacy run which was held last year before the 2007 Cricket World Cup, the National Sports Commission has decided the second annual Legacy Run tomorrow morning at 6am, which will usher in Carifesta X.

The run will have two starting points –from Friendship on the East Bank of Demerara and from the Guyoil Service Station on Sheriff Street- but participants from both points will finish at the Guyana National Stadium, Providence.

According to the Director of Sport Neil Kumar, this year’s run will be held as a consequence of the collaborative efforts of the NSC with the Ministry of Culture Youth and Sport, the Pan American Health Organisation and the Ministry of Health.

Administrative Officer within the NSC Gervy C. Harry said that they expect the participation from many groups of person from different organizations including the Guyana Trade Union, all the sports federations and sub associations,  a few religious organizations, persons with disabilities, as well as military and Para-military.

They NSC encourages all participants to run in groups and reminds them that the Legacy Run is not a race. It was also said yesterday at the media briefing that there will be checkpoints along the respective routes to judge the largest and most organized contingent.

 Registration for the event is free and all registered participants will be given free Legacy Run T-shirts which according to Kumar, will have a very inspiring message written on them.

The run will also have medical teams on hand as well as stations with fruits and water at various stages of the course for participants.

Official starting time for the event is 6am, but the NSC is asking all participants to assemble at the respective points of origin for 5am to finalize registration and collect their t-shirts.
