Sporting bodies should denounce the AAAG

Dear Editor,

It is a real shame what some of the officers of the AAAG are doing to the athletes of this country. I have, over the years, been exposed to the incompetence of some members of this body and after some investigations and information gathering, I have come to the conclusion that Mr Blackmore and his officials display no ambition or desire to serve our athletes. Unfortunately, our athletes are seemingly powerless as they are constantly being let down by some of their own executives who lose their direction.

I am appealing to the other respectable sporting bodies to openly join me in denouncing Mr Blackmore and his associates and to let them know how disgusted we are with them. I was so delighted to see Mr Ivor O’Brien of the Guyana Olympic Association venting his feelings to the press on the AAAG’s selection of Oslyn Collins for the World Junior Championships. I now wish to add my voice in saying that there can be no way that the AAAG’s choice of Miss Collins can be justified over Alika Morgan and the others Miss Morgan mentioned. Mr O’Brien is kindly calling this a “blunder”; my call is incompetence of the highest order.

Furthermore, in solidarity with Alika Morgan and in the interest of the future of athletics, Miss Collins should turn down or be asked to turn down the offer to go to the World Junior Championships.

Until now, I had always hoped that Mr Blackmore and his officials would some day come to realize that their real purpose as executives of the AAAG is to serve and develop the sport of athletics. This obviously is not forthcoming and it is now time for them to resign and stay out of sport administration.

Yours faithfully,
Colin Ming
