Justice La Bennett restrained from hearing certain cases in Berbice

Justice William Ramlal yesterday granted a conservatory order restraining Justice Claudette La Bennett from presiding over cases involving three attorneys in Berbice until the Judicial Service Commission (JSC) hears a complaint filed against her by the lawyers.

Attorneys-at-law Joseph Anamayah, Adrian Anamayah and Ian Anamayah, who have a law practice in Berbice, and their client Nedd Rose, filed an ex-parte application on Wednesday naming the Attorney General as respondent and alleging bias on the part of Justice La Bennett. The judge also ordered that the lawyers serve on Justice La Bennett a sealed and certified copy of the ex parte application and of the conservatory order.
