A slim one – nil margin was enough to get Camptown past the homesters in the feature match of the evening that saw the Guyana Defence Force (GDF) defeating Buxton United 1 – 0 in a friendly curtain raiser.

GDF and Alpha United were initially scheduled to contest the other semi-final but the match was postponed because all of the Alpha United’s players had not returned to home soil from Haiti, where the team competed in the CFU Club Championships. This match will be contested later this week.

Eventual victors Camptown began the first 45 minutes of play attacking and got past the opposition’s backline on numerous occasions, sending a few shots at their custodian Oswald Cornette who made some comfortable saves.

National junior striker Telson McKinnon scored his team’s lone goal in the 19th minute, following a rebound from one of his team mates shots which Cornette could only block, but McKinnon along with other team mates who were unmarked made no mistake of tucking it in the back of the net.

The 1 – 0 lead by Camptown was not very commanding even though they dominated ball possession in the first half and for a few minutes after the 15 minutes break.

Fruta found some rhythm and built up better constructed plays that took them into the 18-yard box, creating a few opportunities as regulation time whistle was fast approaching.

Even with the chances put on the table, Fruta were still unable to get a ball past Richie Richardson who executed a good job in defending Camptown’s uprights.
