The defending National Women’s Chess Champion, Jessica Callender, will need to defeat the 13-year-old challenger to her throne, Aditi Joshi, as the two will clash today in the 9th and final round of the Guyana Chess Federation’s (GCF) 2024 National Women’s Championship.

While Callender went into yesterday’s eighth round marginally ahead via tiebreaks at the National Racquet Centre on Woolford Avenue and Camp Street, her draw with Shazeeda Rahim puts her level on seven points with Joshi, who managed to defeat Ciel Clement. Johnson and Shariff sit in third and fourth spots on the ranking table with 5.5 points each.

Today is the final day of the championship, and we will see either Callender retaining her crown or Joshi emerging triumphant.
