Man in court over Lusignan murder

A 23-year-old man who allegedly battered a Lusignan man after a heated argument and left him on the roadway to die, appeared at the Vigilance Magistrate’s Court yesterday charged with murder.

An expressionless Ramchand Persaud called `Hunter’ and `Boyo’ of Lot 319 Grassfield, Lusignan, East Coast Demerara was not required to plead to the indictable charge which was read to him by Magistrate Sherdel Isaacs-Marcus.

It is alleged that Persaud murdered Victor Persaud on Easter Monday.

According to reports the deceased and another man were involved in a heated row around 2 am before the fatal attack which was carried out with a piece of wood.

The man was found several hours later lying on the roadway that leads to his home with a gaping wound to the back of the head.

Police commenced investigations and Persaud was subsequently arrested and charged.

During the court appearance yesterday the accused was unrepresented and was advised by the magistrate to get a lawyer.

The man said that his relatives were making efforts to get one for him.

The matter which is being prosecuted by assistant superintendant of police Edmond Cooper will continue on May 15.
