North Ruimveldt man badly chopped

A North Ruimveldt man was admitted to the High Dependency Unit (HDU) at the Georgetown Public Hospital (GPHC) after he was allegedly chopped some fifteen times about his body yesterday afternoon.

The man, identified only as Woolford, was rushed to GPHC at approximately 12.30pm, minutes after he was wounded. He was later admitted to the HDU and was unconscious when this newspaper visited shortly after 4.30pm.

Reports are that Woolford was involved in an altercation with a relative who shares the bottom flat of the Lot 2566 North Ruimveldt house.

“The old man [Woolford] used to look after the house for he sister,” one resident said.
Stabroek News was unable to contact other relatives of the man. Hospital sources reported last evening that Woolford was in a serious condition.

“The man [Woolford] appears to be in his late fifty’s or early sixty’s,” hospital sources said. “He sustained several chops to the head as well…his condition is not of the best.”

This newspaper understands that the alleged assailant was taken into custody but up to late last evening police had not issued a statement regarding the matter.
