Barbecuing for the public?

-make sure you have food handler’s permit
The Food and Drug Department says any person engaged in the preparation of food for public consumption must first obtain a food handler’s permit.

In a press release the Government Analyst and Food and Drug Department said the permit is issued by the Regulatory Authority for organisers and operators of take-away lunches, barbeques or Fish Fry and Lime events. Organisers and operators are asked to contact the Meat and Food Hygiene Division of the Mayor and City Council. Those located outside of the city are advised to visit the environmental health officer in their respective neighbourhood democratic councils.

The release said a permit is issued when an individual has been exposed to the required food hygiene training course comprising theoretical and practical sessions and on-site evaluation.  Permits are valid for one year from the date of issue. It said too it expects full cooperation from operators in the interest of consumer protection and safety.
