Rio village a ghost town as fugitive gunman threatens to kill

(Trinidad Express) – As police hunt for the man linked to four murders in Agostini Village, Rio Claro, Mayaro MP Winston “Gypsy” Peters is calling for a meeting with Minister of National Security Martin Joseph.

He wants to discuss security measures for the residents who have imposed a dusk-to-dawn curfew on themselves.

And even as police promise a 24-hour patrol, residents continue to live in fear of the gunman who has gone into hiding and threatened to kill anyone who tries to capture him.
Children are no longer allowed to play outside their homes and doors are locked long before nightfall.

Peters said: “This has been going on for a while now. I have spoken to the police and they have promised regular patrols in the area. I intend to have a meeting with the Minister of National Security to discuss security measures.”

But as residents beg for protection, many local government officials have chosen to remain silent and steer clear of the issue.
