Woman slashed in abdomen discharged

-attacker still on the run

Yolanda Brummell, the 22-year-old mother of two who was reportedly slashed in the abdomen by her reputed husband last Thursday, was discharged from the Georgetown Public Hospital (GPHC) yesterday.

The alleged attacker, according to a senior police source, is still on the run. A recent search, the source said, led to the Lot 1210 ‘B’ Field, Sophia house he formerly shared with the injured woman. However, police were unable to apprehend the man who jumped through a window and subsequently escaped.

Stabroek News was unable to speak with the injured woman. However, she has not returned to the Lot 1210 house.

Brummell was rushed to the GPHC at approximately 4.15 am last Thursday, bleeding profusely from a wound to her abdomen.

She was later admitted to the hospital’s Intensive Care Unit. Stabroek News had learnt from cousins that the woman is originally from the Essequibo coast.

However, the circumstances surrounding the attack are still unknown.

“We ain’t know is wha happen… Is de police come tell me that she in the hospital and she critical,” one cousin had said. “They [the police] say that is she children father do it.”

Lot 1210 ‘B’ Field, Sophia was tightly locked when this newspaper visited hours after the alleged attack and neighbours had expressed surprise when told of the incident. Some residents said that Brummell and her reputed husband would argue regularly.

“I ain’t hear no commotion or anything this morning [yesterday],” one neighbour previously said. “I don’t know the woman [Brummell] and her family well because I moved in recently. But I would normally hear the two of them shouting at one another on a regular basis.”
