The Ministry of Agriculture is heartened by the comments of Stabroek Business contained in their editorial under the caption ‘Agriculture: Seizing the moment, grasping the opportunity’ (April 24). They reflect many of the considerations that are being taken on board by the ministry in response to the international global and economic crises as evidenced by the deliberations and pronouncements that emanated from the recent round table that addressed the issue.
In response to your comments in the last three paragraphs of the editorial, please be informed that at the conclusion of the discussion, Minister Persaud proposed that “a much smaller multi-stakeholder team” be assembled to extract the essence of the forum and apply it in a broader plan to take the agriculture sector forward.
