Pay tribute to the sacrifices of forebears – AFC

The Alliance For Change (AFC) said Arrival Day gives Guyanese whose forebears arrived on these shores in bondage and in servitude a chance to pay homage to their sacrifice and contributions.

In a press release, the party said today there is much to be proud of. All Guyanese, except “our indigenous brothers and sisters, came across oceans and seas,” to establish roots, and together worked towards developing Guyana and forging a Guyanese identity; a  struggle singer/songwriter Dave Martins captures perfectly in his song, “Is We Own.”

At the same time, the party said today marks the 171st anniversary of the arrival of East Indians to Guyana. “Undoubtedly, the Guyanese mosaic has been made brighter and richer by their arrival and contribution,” it said.
The party also urges citizens to rediscover the meaning of the words of the National Anthem and to rededicate their “energies towards the unity, happiness and prosperity of our Dear Land of Guyana.”
