The management of the Cell Star Digicel outlet at the corner of Regent and Light streets was forced to remove all valuables from the store yesterday morning after footsteps were heard in the ceiling of the store.

Stephen Hall, Marketing supervisor of the outlet, told Stabroek News that he arrived at the store at around 9:30 am and as soon as he turned on the lights he observed part of the ceiling caving in.

“I immediately ask who is there and then I hear footsteps running above me,” he said.

The supervisor said that he ran out of the store and closed the door alerting nearby businesses and members of the city constabulary arrived on the scene. Members of the city police were first on the scene and they searched the place but no one was found.

Later police ranks arrived and part of the ceiling was removed but no one was found. “The person got a surprise as they wouldn’t expect anyone to work on a holiday,” Hall said.

The store was closed for the day and all of the valuables removed while part of the ceiling remained opened as the investigation continued.

The management of the outlet expressed appreciation to both the police and city police for their quick response.
